MVLL Umpires

MVLL's Umpire Mentoring Program is a best-in-class opportunity for baseball players (boys and girls!) age 12 and up to develop leadership and communication skills, earn some spending money (or HS community service hours), and have fun learning about the sport from a new point of view.

This is a real job - umpires are expected to present themselves in a professional manner, schedule and arrive for their shifts on time, and make calls to the best of their ability, all within a learning environment designed to be supportive and empowering.

We provide plenty of ongoing training, and, of course, stylish shirts and hats that will be the envy of your peers. The Umpdate, a weekly newsletter, keeps umpires up to date on important umpiring news during the season.

Pay ranges from $30-$45 per game depending on role and experience. There are signup and training opportunities during Fall Ball (September through October) and during the Spring Season (March through June). More experienced and capable umpires will get further opportunities to umpire playoff, championship, and even District 3 All Star tournament games.

Training for Fall Ball begins in August, and for Spring Season, in late February.

Umpire Update- NEW TIMES FOR TRAINING (2/2/2024)

With the season just a few weeks away, MVLL is looking for umpires!
This season, umpires must be at least 12 years old by 8/31/24.

Training is mandatory for all umpires.

All NEW umpires are required to attend TWO training sessions (2/11 and 3/10).

Returning umps are required to attend at least one session. (Attending both trainings is highly encouraged and we will give scheduling priority to those who attend both.)

Don't know if you're considered a new or returning umpire???
New umpires are just starting out or began their careers in the 2023 Fall Ball season. Returning umpires have worked a previous SPRING season.

The first Training Session is on Sunday, February 11th.
10:30 - 11:30 am - Returning umpires (those who have worked a previous spring season)
12 pm - 2 pm - New umpires (those who are brand new or joined during fall ball 2023) - lunch will be provided.

WHAT TO DO NEXT:

If your son or daughter will be 12 years or older by August 31st, 2024, and is interested in umpiring games for MVLL this season, please fill out the umpire interest form by clicking here: UMPIRE INTEREST FORM

Only those who fill out the form will receive emails with logistical information and answers to questions such as 'How do I sign up for times?' and 'How much do I get paid?'
