MILL VALLEY LITTLE LEAGUE/Week of April 1-7
Spring break has arrived and with it a pause in the Boyle Park action. Rainouts still nagged the end of last week, but coaches and the league are working hard to reschedule all the missed games. We want all the kids to play ball as much as they can!
In the meantime, the highlights from last week. Enjoy the break everyone!
MAJORS
Giants 3, Red Sox 0 — Gray Getty went 2-for-3 with a double and hurled two shutout innings to lead the Giants, who recorded sixteen putouts in the field without an error. Brodie Williams smacked a two-run double and closed the game on the mound, while Rory Murphy and Fletcher Lucanic combined for three shutout innings.
For the Red Sox, Cole Swift tossed two scoreless frames and Jack Payne whiffed four in two innings.
Yankees 7, Reds 4 — Consecutive hits by Charlie Davies, Oscar Karlen and Mike Peavy drove in four runs as the Yanks rode a six-run third inning to victory. The Yankees received two scoreless innings from Davies, two one-run innings from Archie Byrne and Peavy. Karlen worked out of a bases loaded jam in the 5th inning and closed the game.
The Reds enjoyed two scoreless innings from Matthew Cao, and a two-hit day for Brooks Merrick. Ronan Coyne lashed a double for the Reds.
Rays 8, Red Sox 3 —Beckett Glynn, Teddy Klaassen and Davis Marshall each had two hits and two runs scored while Henry Ellis had three RBIs for the Rays. Glynn, Klaassen, and August Gottlieb pitched shutout innings for the Rays.
For the Red Sox, Quinn Kelly had two hits, Jack Payne crushed a double to deep right center and Jack Lee and Cole Swift each pitched shutout innings.
MINORS
Cubs 14, Giants 4 — In the second game of a two-game set before spring break, the Cubs enjoyed two-RBI days from six different players — Abdullah Mullah, Zach Cornelius, Tate Shackleton, Joe Blancarte, Declan Macateer, and Ben Locks.
Avery Peskin, Blancarte and Shackleton each hit doubles while on the mound, Blancarte pitched two scoreless innings, striking out four batters.
For the Giants, Lazlo Winn notched two hits, scored two runs and hurled two innings of one-run ball. JP Edwards had a hit for the fifth consecutive game.
Giants 9, Cubs 8 — The Giants came back in the final frame for the win when Henry Levin drew a bases-loaded walk. Everett Bailey reached base three times and played solid defense for the winners, while Jonas Jackson added a double and two RBIs. Tato Narganes went 2-for-2 and Charlie McIntosh whiffed six on the mound.
For the Cubs, Tyler Feduska pitched two scoreless innings with four strikeouts. Tate Shackleton and Abdullah Mullah each pitched one inning and each struck out two. RBIs came from a range of the Cubs lineup — Feduska (1), Shackleton (2), Jude Willard (1), Avery Peskin (1), Rhodes Tewksbury (1). Ben Locks and Joe Blancarte showed great discipline at the plate, each drawing multiple walks after long at-bats.
Rangers 9, Diamondbacks 2 — Paxton King had two hits, scored two runs, drove in three and closed the game by escaping a bases-loaded jam. Wyatt Droege reached base three times for the winners, and added five strikeouts in two innings on the mound.
For the D-Backs, Lucas Parrett doubled and pitched a spotless inning, Finn Shumway struck out the side in an inning while Asher Kim made his pitching debut and allowed just one hit and one walk.
Mariners 13, Phillies 2 — All 12 Mariners contributed with either a hit, run or RBI in the team effort. Five players had two RBIs including Wyatt Martin (3-for-3), Les Sollner (2-for-3), Ezra Pope-Meyer (2-for-3), Cody Chittenden (1-for-2) and Cooper Maddex (1-for-2). Knox Medow, Rivington Lee and Beau Bremer also contributed with hits. Sollner (three Ks) Pope-Meyer and Cody Chittenden (five Ks) pitched well for the winners.
For the Phillies, John McClatchy and Jack Devlin smacked RBI hits and Milo Davies and Oliver Little each scored a run. Devlin fanned three in two innings and Henry Schmidt whiffed two in 1 2/3 innings.
MINORS AAA
Royals 5, Twins 3 — An RBI hit from Cruz Williamson tied the game, and then the Royals completed a comeback to stay unbeaten with Oliver Lynch striking out the side to end it. The Twins grabbed an early lead on key RBI knocks from Will Maynard and solid pitching from Eli Schroeder and Dylan Burke.
Cardinals 3, Pirates 0 —Knight Bohman rapped his first hit of the season off live pitching and added a very solid inning of pitching just days after his baby sister was born. Aksel Hwang Scheel also notched hit first hit of the season off live pitching. Grey Robinson was dominant on the mound, whiffing six in two innings.
Giants 10, Rockies 3 — Jensen Rhodes struck out a pair of hitters to preserve a scoreless from in the win for the Giants.
Cardinals 8, A’s 3 — Each team turned a double play in the Cards’ win.
